Premier League Update:

On Monday, 18 January, 2021, the CNC Board put together a survey for the community involved in the NWCNC Premier competition. The community was asked whether or not they supported the inclusion of male players into the premier competition, as well as providing the CNC board some feedback on the proposal.

The survey received 60 responses.

51 responses supported the proposal (85%)
7 responses declined the proposal (11.7%)
2 responses showed interest as long as it was well policed and regulated (3.3%)

As a result of this survey it can be concluded that the vast majority of our premier community are in favor of the proposed changes and that the CNC Board must endeavour to provide a competition that supports the desire to include both male and female participants into the NWCNC Premier competition.

It is with great excitement that the CNC Board has approved the inclusion of men into the NWCNC Premier league on a trial basis for the 2021 season. Pioneered by the stalwart in Aroha Kara, our Vice-President, the CNC Board confirms that premier teams may register into either a premier ladies league or a premier mixed league. The mixed league can register up to four (4) male players; and up to two (2) male players per team may take the court at any one time.

This is an exciting time for netball in our region - along with netball as a whole in New Zealand. We are proud to support the NNZ Poipoia Strategy Plan. This encourages all netball bodies in New Zealand to act with courage and to take on fresh challenges; stand up and out; be bold; push boundaries; focus on what you can influence and do; and take the shot.

“Our future strategy must enable us to shift and adapt to meet the needs of all future Netball participants. No longer can we plan out precisely what is needed across our sport. Rigid planning will leave us behind. Rather, with the guidance of our understanding of what really matters to us in our sport, we will find our future paths. So it is important that we listen to the many voices who make up the guardians of our sport. Inclusivity, excellence, fun, inspiration, friendship, care for one another.”

The competition format and updated regulations will be available at a later date.
